What Is NatsuComi?

NatsuComi — short for Natsu Comiket, or Summer Comics Fair — is Shueisha's annual summer campaign run across participating bookstores throughout Japan. Each year, fans receive exclusive collectible cards when purchasing qualifying manga volumes or magazines during the campaign window. The cards are never sold separately and never restocked once distribution ends.

This year's campaign ran from July 1 to August 31, 2026, with a total lineup of 22 different MetaKira cards spanning Shueisha's biggest series. The One Piece Watermelon Luffy card is the headline item of the campaign — and the one international collectors are hunting hardest.

The Artwork

The illustration shows Monkey D. Luffy in classic summer form — carrying a stack of watermelons by the ocean, drawn entirely by Eiichiro Oda himself. This isn't repurposed manga panel art or a staff illustration: it's a freshly drawn piece created specifically for the 2026 NatsuComi campaign. Oda's printed signature sits on the artwork itself, which is a significant part of what drives the card's appeal for collectors.

The watermelon motif is a classic Japanese summer image, and Oda leaning into that with Luffy makes this one of the more characterful promos he's contributed to in recent years. It's the kind of piece that reads as collectible even to people who have never played the card game.

Why This Card Is Hard to Get

This card was never available for purchase. In Japan, it was distributed only as a free bonus at participating bookstores when buying qualifying Shueisha titles during a two-month window. Stock varied by location, and some stores ran out well before the campaign ended. It was never restocked.

For collectors outside Japan, that means the only route is the secondary market — importing directly from Japan or buying from a retailer who sourced stock during the campaign window. We imported our allocation directly and have it available in the UK now, ready to ship.
